This year's Operation Red Flare, a 12-mile night hike with 13 checkpoints, 8 incidents, 4 bonus questions and a challenge, took place in the area around Bentley Copse campsite on the night of Saturday 22nd February 2004. Altogether 17 teams – Explorers, Network and Rangers – took part and approximately 50 adults were involved in the running of the event.

The under-18 and overall winners were the Double Dragon Explorer team from Wallington, Carshalton & District with 417 points. The under-18 runners-up were the Erikson team from Richmond upon Thames with 348 points. The over-18 winners and overall runners-up were the Kenley B Team with 379 points and the ladies prize was won by the Fetcham Rangers team with 348 points.
