GLSW Network Investiture

The GLSW Scout Network effectively came into being with the Investiture of the first Members aboard HMS Belfast on Friday 17 January 2003. The party of 14, including two Members from Berkshire, assembled with kit at London Bridge station provoking a certain amount of curiosity from homebound commuters. A short walk revealed the 'surprise' venue, where we were welcomed aboard and shown to our 'mess' on deck 3. Pizzas arrived soon after, and these were consumed at the same time as participating in a fairly informal team quiz featuring Scouting and other questions.

At approximately 9.15pm we made our way to the Admiral's Day Room, where David Williamson, the National Commissioner, made a short speech before the CSNC led everyone in re-affirming The Promise. Certificates marking the event were then presented by David, who joined us all for 'refreshment' at the nearest (and as it turned out most expensive) hostelry we could find. We were back on board by 11.30pm for a natter and trivial pursuits before hitting the sack. A continental breakfast was provided in the morning, and then some toured the ship while most headed for the station and home. The intention is that future investitures will be organised by the Local Networks themselves although it is just possible that there could be another similar event in 12 months time – watch this space!
