Communications Report

This year, the main emphasis of the Communications Committee has changed from the Focus Newsletter to the County Website and other associated forms of electronic communication. A small team has been formed to help update, develop and maintain the site. The team consists of Helen Jeffrey, Robert Lewis, Christopher Sowden (Bob and Chris are the technical wizards), Andy Harris and myself. It has a set number of aims for the site, namely: -

These aims were conveyed to the District Chairmen at their recent meeting, and their suggestions of a PRI Link, diary link, an Honours List for Queens Scouts will be pursued. A link to Jo Launchbury's projects as County Development Officer is already in hand.

As anyone recently visiting the site will have noticed a number of changes have taken place. Particularly in the Scout and Venture Scout Sections. Jamboree information and Contacts pages.

Additional information on the County Scout Centre will be added soon. Helen Jeffrey, our Web Manager, is keen to include some photographs of the Centre. Another area for inclusion is the Gangshow, with information on this year's show, a booking form and possibly a Link to the theatre's own website to allow on-line booking.

Members of the County Team now have a standard format for their e-mail addresses firstname.surname@glswscouts.org.uk and thumbnail images are starting to appear against names. More will show as Helen captures people at future events.

The Greater London South West mailing list service via Yahoo groups is now used more. Being one of the 150+ subscribers ensures that any County mailings will be sent directly via e-mail. Newsflashes and website updates are notified to all on the e-mailing group.

Special thanks should be recorded of the sterling work carried out by Helen Jeffrey over the past few months. Her enthusiasm knows no bounds and her ability to motivate and cajole people into action has been pivotal to the Website's recent progress.

After a year in the Focus editors chair, Phil Davies, has expressed a wish to stand down for family reasons. This is a disappointment as Phil has only just got his 'feet under the table'. He adopted a more cost effective way of producing the Newsletter that was particularly welcomed by the printer. It is planned to continue to issue five editions a year with the copies being with the Districts at the beginning of April, June, October, December and February. Focus can now be e-mailed to individuals in PDF form. If you would like to receive your copy this way please e-mail focus@glswscouts.org.uk.
