Beaver Scout Report

In case some of you do not know me let me give you a little bit of my history. I used to be a Guide Leader and when I married we had two sons, then I discovered Scouting. In 1989 I became a Beaver Leader in Eastern Croydon District. I was asked to become District Beaver Scout Leader and later on Assistant District Commissioner Beaver Scouts. My sons became Beavers in due course and the youngest one who is now sixteen is a Venture Scout and soon to be an Explorer Scout, my eldest left Ventures when he was twenty one, but I hope that he will now join the Scout Network. My husband Les is the Eastern Croydon District Safety Co-ordinator and also helps to run Cubs and Scouts. So you can see we are a busy Scouting family.

I took over from Joan Condon in April 2001, and I am slowly becoming aquainted with the County. I have not been able to get to all the District Leaders Meetings as they tend to be held on evenings when I have other commitments. If I can ask all Assistant District Commissioners to inform me of any important events or meetings that they would like me to attend, well in advance, then I might be able to attend meetings etc. I really am looking forward to meeting you all in due course.

What an exciting time to take over as Assistant County Commissioner Beaver Scouts. The last year has seen many changes in the Scout Movement. The Beaver uniform has changed and all the Beavers seem to really like the new uniform, even if it is a little too big for some of them. Then we had the launches for the new Scout programme and discovered that the Beavers are now an important part of Scouting and our programme reflects this. We have all sorts of new Awards and in particular a Chief Scouts Bronze Award which is the highest award a Beaver can obtain. I was very pleased to have met so many of you at the launches.

From the minutes that I receive it seems that the Beaver Scouts in the County undertake all sorts of activities and go on many outings to various places in the country. I have managed to attend a few District Beaver Fun Days to discover that Beavers and Leaders in our County really do know how to enjoy themselves. I hope to be able to visit a few more events during the coming year.

My thanks must go to all Leaders, Assistant Leaders and Helpers for the work they do each week within their Colonies, without them I would have no visits to make or anything to write about. I must also thank the County Commissioner and the County Team for all their support during the last year, as I am new to this they have all been of great assistance.
