Yr Hen Neuadd: Activities

An Activity Centre in North Wales

The base is superbly situated on the northern edge of the Snowdonia National Park and with the north Welsh coastline in easy reach for all forms of mountain and water activities. It is not by chance that both the National Mountaineering Centre (Plas y Brenin) and the National Watersports Centre (Plas Menai) are both situated within a few minutes drive of the base.

In addition the area is rich in ancient and historical sites from megalithic tombs through to the castles at Conwy, Caernarfon and Beaumaris. There are the 'Stately Homes' of Penrhyn Castle and Plas Newydd close by. Industrial archaeology is represented by the Slate mines of Llechwedd and Gloddfa Ganol at Blaenau Fffestiniog, and the show copper mine of Sygyn. There are a number of nature trails and nature reserves (including a marine nature reserve) in the area, one of the most spectacular of which is the area of sea cliffs at South Stack, just outside Holyhead.

Those who know the area will know the truth behind the adage that when God created the rest of the world, he was only practising.
