GLSW Sweden Expedition 2011
Already some 25-30 Explorer Scouts from three districts have applied to join the County Explorer Scout Expedition to Sweden in 2011. The expedition dates – shortly to be confirmed as July 25th to August 5th – overlap with the World Jamboree. Indeed, we will be visiting the WSJ site at Rinkaby during our stay.
The flights will be booked shortly, and this effectively will be the last opportunity for any Explorer in GLSW who wants to take part. To secure a place we will need a cheque for £200 made payable to GLSW County Scout Council as soon as possible. Events and fundraisers are planned in the run-up to the expedition. There are still some places available, but the deadline is fast approaching and it is decision time! Further details and an online application form on the website.
County is aware that a significant number of young people were unsuccessful at the various district selections for the GLSW Jamboree Units for Sweden. As a result, we have decided to mount a County Expedition to Sweden for those aged 14–18 in July/August 2011.
Steve Callan, the new ACC (ES), and myself have considerable experience of leading camps in Sweden — probably 10 to 12 between us. The idea is to fly to Copenhagen (from Gatwick), and then travel by train or coach to a Scout campsite in the south of the country (Skane). We understand that there will be a number of organised camps running during the period, and it should be possible to participate in one of these.
The programme will combine adventurous activities, a bit of sightseeing, the international dimension, and a day visit to the World Jamboree. At the moment, cost is a little uncertain, but we hope to charge no more than £500. We would like to hear from anyone aged between their 14th and 18th birthdays in July 2011 who wishes to take part. There will also be an opportunity for a number of adults to join the leadership team.
